  • Aquarium Manager

    The Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association (MMA) is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced aquarist professional to advance the organization’s mission of supporting a life-long passion for science through education, research, and first-hand exploration of the sky, land, and sea of Nantucket Island. Reporting to the Director of Science and Programs, the Aquarium Manager, will play a crucial role in our organization's growth and success and will serve as the public face of the MMA marine science initiatives. The successful candidate will run the day-to-day aquarium operations, manage interns and volunteers, lead and supervise all marine husbandry, and lead educational experiences. They will also be responsible for cultivating relationships with constituents and the public at large. This role requires a dynamic individual with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and provides a unique opportunity to learn about managing a popular public aquarium, grow leadership skills, and build relationships with the Nantucket marine science community.

  • Director of Development

    The Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association (MMA) is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Director of Development to advance the organization’s mission of supporting a life-long passion for science through education, research, and first-hand exploration of the sky, land, and sea of Nantucket Island. 


    Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development will play a crucial role in our organization's growth and success by managing the daily operations related to development, communications, events, and cultivating relationships with current and prospective donors to secure gifts to support our mission. 


    The Director of Development leads a small development team and is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting gifts from individual donors, foundations, and corporations. This role requires a dynamic individual with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships with philanthropic supporters to create visibility for MMA’s impactful work with regard to the organization’s mission. 


    This position offers a unique opportunity to spearhead Annual Fund giving, major gifts, grants, corporate support, membership, and special events.

  • Natural Science Museum Manager

    The Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association (MMA) is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Natural Science professional to advance the organization’s mission of supporting a life-long passion for science through education, research, and first-hand exploration of the sky, land, and sea of Nantucket Island. Reporting to the Director of Science and Programs, the Natural Science Museum Manager is the public face of the MMA’s natural science education activities and serves as the primary connection between the Nantucket community and natural science museum. The successful candidate will operate the Natural Science Museum, produce strong science related program offerings, help to manage interns and volunteers, conduct, and supervise all terrestrial and marine animal husbandry, and lead educational experiences through programs. They will also be responsible for cultivating relationships with constituents and the public at large. This role requires a dynamic individual with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and provides a unique opportunity to learn about managing a popular natural science museum and collections, grow leadership skills, and build relationships with the Nantucket science community.

  • Telescope Engineer

    The Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association (MMA) is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Telescope Engineer to advance the organization’s mission of supporting a life-long passion for science through education, research, and first-hand exploration of the sky, land, and sea of Nantucket Island. 


    The Telescope Engineer at Maria Mitchell Association will be an integral part of our team responsible for the operation and maintenance of telescopic equipment and contributing to state-of-the-art image acquisition and data reduction for science and public outreach. Duties also include instructing and training MMA Personnel in the use of the MMA telescopes.  


    This position offers a unique opportunity to support public education and outreach as well as work on groundbreaking projects that contribute to the advancement of human knowledge about the cosmos as well as the support of the NSF-REU and Post-baccalaureate NSF programs.
