Laura came to Nantucket for the summer in 1993 and stayed. After nearly 30 years she is still enjoying the history, beauty and community she has found on Nantucket. She has worked many jobs but especially enjoyed her time at the Nantucket Atheneum. We think Maria Mitchell would agree, as she was their very first librarian. Laura studied Art and Photography at SUNY Potsdam receiving her BA in Studio Art in 1992. Curiosity and creativity are two of her favorite words and she hopes to bring both to her position as Operations Manager. She looks forward to supporting the important mission of the Maria Mitchell Association to preserve Maria Mitchell’s legacy.

Fun fact: Laura has a particular fondness for octopus and is thrilled that the Maria Mitchell Aquarium boasts a lively, curious and intelligent octopus named Cthulhu.
