Nikoline is a scientist, historian, treasure hunter, and artist with a passion for uncovering stories hidden beneath our feet. A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics with a minor in Fine Art. For nearly two decades, she has been an active member of the Nantucket Artists Association and a dedicated contributor to the local community.
In 2025, Nikoline joined the Maria Mitchell Association, where she teaches metal detecting and art classes, and serves as a Programs Assistant for the Natural Science Museum and the observatories. Her work combines science, creativity, and curiosity to inspire others to explore the past in new ways.
Originally from Denmark, Nikoline grew up exploring forests and shorelines, where she developed a deep appreciation for the natural world. Her fascination with meteorites began after finding a curious rock on a beach, leading her to pick up her first metal detector—and she’s been hooked ever since.
Today, she uses her metal detecting skills to preserve history and help others recover their lost treasures. Nikoline has been featured on national television shows including Expedition Unknown (Discovery+) and Beyond Oak Island (History Channel), sharing her expertise in ethical and responsible treasure hunting.
She is a frequent speaker at events such as the Nantucket Preservation Trust’s annual Symposium and the MALSCE Convention, advocating for the respectful treatment of historical artifacts and the land that holds them.
When asked about her most meaningful discoveries, Nikoline shares stories ranging from a returned engagement ring to a 2,000-year-old Roman artifact. Her favorite find? A small silver 1737 half reale, minted in Spain, that traveled to Nantucket and was worn as a button by an early settler—until it was lost, only to be rediscovered centuries later.
Join Nikoline on a metal detecting adventure and learn how you, too, can uncover the fascinating stories buried beneath your feet!
