Kat moved to Nantucket with her mother at the age of eight. She was the valedictorian of her high school class and attended Amherst College, where she earned a B.A. in Women's and Gender Studies. After several years living in Albuquerque, NM, she returned to the island in the fall of 1999.

Nearly all Kat's professional life has been spent working in the nonprofit sector. Prior to joining the MMA in 2016, Kat held several positions during her 16-year tenure at A Safe Place, the island's provider of services for those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. For the final eight years she served as A Safe Place's Executive Director.

Outside of work, Kat enjoys reading, puzzles, crocheting, and the sport of curling. She is very active in the congregational life and lay leadership of the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House and also currently serves on the Board of the Tuckernuck Land Trust. Her household includes a husband, a teenage son, two cats, and a dog.

Favorite MMA property to visit:

I don't get to visit the properties as much as I would like, but I particularly like the Aquarium. There are so many things to see in such a compact space! I especially love the seahorses.
