WAYS TO GIVE

Gifts of Securities

Giving a gift of stock, mutual funds, or securities is a particularly convenient and tax-efficient way to support the work of the Maria Mitchell Association, especially since your broker or custodian may transfer securities electronically into the MMA’s accounts.

Because the MMA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we pay no tax on capital gains. You will receive full value for your tax-deductible gift and in many cases, these gifts can provide a greater tax benefit than an equivalent gift in cash.

Electronic transfer is a technique that all brokers are in the habit of using because it is the most expeditious way of moving securities. Electronic transfer requires that your broker have the following information about the MMA’s account:

Receiving Broker: UBS Financial Services, Inc.

DTC Number: 0221

Account Name: Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association

Account Number: HQ 18850-BG

Contact Person at UBS Financial: Brian Gardiner (508) 362-1800

Please note that it is very important that you or your agent send a letter informing the MMA of your gift so that your gift can be properly processed and promptly acknowledged.

Our mailing address is: 4 Vestal Street Nantucket, MA 02554.

To receive a gift of securities, we will need:

• Date of gift

• Name of the security and number of shares

• Per share value on the date of the gift

• Restrictions, if any

• Your transfer agent’s name, address, and telephone number

• Any instructions you have regarding use of the proceeds, i.e. membership renewal, memorial

contribution, capital campaign, etc.

It is the Association’s policy to sell contributed securities and have the proceeds sent to our office by our broker. We do not hold stock certificates or securities.

Please contact MMA Community Relations & Development Manager, Tess McCarthy, at (508) 228-9198 or
tmccarthy@mariamitchell.org with any questions.
