Event Planning and Development Internship

The MMA is offering one summer internship in event planning and development. The intern selected for this position will work closely with the Advancement and Marketing departments to carry out strategic donor relations that build participation in and support for the MMA’s programs and special events. This intern will also be responsible for special event preparation, event communication, and basic administrative tasks. This is an excellent learning opportunity for a student seeking to build professional expertise in both strategic and hands-on development.

  • Responsibilities and Tasks

    Event Planning/ Development:

    • Assisting in event planning and implementation of activities surrounding annual special events/fundraisers. This includes organizing event supplies, researching products for event gifts, organizing guest lists, creating invitations, and post-event communications.


    • Drafting event communications and collateral.


    • Organizing event auction and bid sheets.


    • Performing CRM database updates.


    • Supporting membership campaigns, including strategy and implementation.


    • Organizing member events and post event follow up.


    • Researching and drafting special giving day campaigns.


    • Assisting with mailings.


    Marketing/Public Relations:

    • Scripting and curating thank-you videos.


    • Working with the Communications Intern on drafting and designing informational materials and displays for development special events.


  • Key Requirements and Qualifications

    • A strong interest in development within a non-profit setting.


    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Excel. Proficiency in Adobe products is a plus.


    • Experience working with CRM database a plus. 


    • An independent worker who can take initiative.


    • At least two years of college or relevant work experience.


    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


    • Ability to multi-task and work in a busy environment.


    • Willingness and ability to work cooperatively in a team setting, adapt to change, and take supervisory direction.


    • Evening and weekend hours will be necessary on occasion. General Schedule is 10:00-4:00. 


    • The MMA will follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance and continue to require all employees to receive a primary COVID-19 vaccination series and one booster in 2023. It is highly recommended that all community members stay up-to-date with their vaccinations and receive further boosters when and if eligible.

  • Compensation and Duration

    • This is a paid internship.


    • The MMA has dormitory-style housing available for interns to rent. Housing is located within walking distance to the town center and is a short bike ride to beautiful beaches, hiking trials, museums, and other great locations. If you live on campus, you will be expected to attend and participate all dorm cleaning days as part of your housing agreement. Please note that the dorm rooms are shared. Interns are not required to live in MMA provided housing, however, as Nantucket’s housing availability is notoriously limited and often expensive, we require our interns to provide proof of alternative housing before their internship begins.


    • This internship runs approximately from May 22, 2023 to August 18, 2023.
