Maria Mitchell Association Privacy Policy

The Maria Mitchell Association (MMA) respects the privacy of our online visitors and has instituted policies intended to ensure that your personal information is handled in a safe and responsible manner. This Policy is only applicable to the Site and not to any other websites that you may be able to access from the Site.

Personal Information

In operating the Site, MMA may include registration, online surveys and other online forms that ask users to provide their names, e-mail addresses, mailing addresses and other contact information, as well as additional personal and financial information. If you have supplied us with your email address, postal address, or telephone number, you may receive periodic email, mailings and telephone calls about promotions and upcoming events.

We may retain the email addresses of our members and friends (from membership forms, email sign up sheets, etc.) using the secure email service Constant Contact and send out our monthly E-Comet newsletter and special announcements. Anyone who so chooses may permanently opt out of these emails at any time by using the SafeUnsubscribe link found in each email, or by contacting info@mariamitchell.org. We never share, loan, or sell our email list with any third party. If you do not want to receive such information from us in the future, please contact us.

The Site automatically recognizes visitors’ domain names and IP addresses. We collect only the domain name, but not the e-mail address of visitors to our website. The information we collect is used to improve the content of the site. The Site may also gather anonymous “traffic data” that does not personally identify you for marketing purposes or for improving the services we offer. The information is not shared with other organizations for commercial purposes.

Credit Card Information

This website uses SSLA Secured processing to encrypt credit card information provided as part of an online donation, or an order placed through our online shop. This eliminates the risk of the decoding of that information by anyone other than the MMA for the purposes of processing your order or donation. To check the security of your connection, look at the bottom of your browser window after accessing the server. If you see an unbroken key or a closed lock (depending upon your browser), then the secured processing is active. You can also verify secured processing by looking at the URL line of your browser. When accessing a secure server, the first characters of the site address will change from “http” to “https.”

Cookies

Cookies are small files of information that are stored on your computer’s hard drive by your Web browser. The cookies we use do not contain any personal information. No part of our website uses ‘cookies’ to capture your email address without your permission. In order to use all the features to make purchases online at MMA, we recommend that you accept cookies.

Changes to this Policy

MMA reserves the right, in its sole discretion and without any obligation, to modify or correct any error or omissions in any portion of this website. From time to time, we may use visitor information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our privacy notice.

If our information practices change at some time in the future we will post the policy changes to our website to notify you of these changes and provide you with the ability to opt out of these new uses. If you are concerned about how your information is used, you should check back at our website periodically.

You may also contact info@mariamitchell.org with any concerns about privacy on our site.
