Being a part of Maria’s legacy with a donation to MMA’s Annual Operating Appeal sets you apart as someone committed to a love of learning and of Nantucket. Aside from the up-keep and operation of our properties, the Appeal underwrites program development for children and adults in astronomy, and the marine and natural sciences. Also, as our reputation for rigorous research and scholarships continues to strengthen, we are expanding our program offerings to include more workshops and lectures designed to encourage public discourse on many areas related to science important to the island, like water quality, erosion, alternative energy and tick borne disease. Our annual Operating Budget is about $1 million, serving close to 15,000 people throughout the year.

The construction of Maria Mitchell’s new Science Center on Washington Street is a response to the overwhelming interest of residents and visitors to our mission and programs. We hope you consider being part of this amazing facility, leaving your own legacy of support for science, education and the natural environment of the island to future residents and visitors. Naming opportunities exist for many parts of the building, from aquarium tanks to exhibits.
