Executive Administrator and Development Associate
Lydia attended Sweet Briar College where she double majored in Business and English & Creative Writing at Sweet Briar College. Lydia grew up on Nantucket and graduated from Nantucket High School in 2014. Lydia first came to the Maria Mitchell Association as a Marketing Intern. After her internship, Lydia wanted to work at the Maria Mitchell Association because of the beneficial impact that it has on the community of Nantucket and the education opportunities provided for everyone, from students attending the camps learning about ecosystems, to children on the street who come across Pop-Up Science, to college interns who are able to perform their own research, to grown ups, holding up a pair of binoculars and learning about a new bird. She believes that the Maria Mitchell Association is a long standing and integral part of the Nantucket community. It brings locals and visitors alike a better understanding of science and the island through everything that it does, from the Aquarium to the Science Museum to the Women in Science Symposium.
As a college student, Lydia ran cross country, rode horses, tutored in writing, learned to ballroom dance, ran a marathon, and served as the Vice President for the Inter-Club Council.
Now that she is back on island, Lydia spends much of her time running, reading, drinking tea, going to the beach, and watching Patriots games.
In Virginia, Lydia volunteered at a local animal shelter, photographing the new arrivals for the website and social media. Lydia now volunteers with the Nantucket STAR Program.
